A lawn…even a dry, crunchy one…

Is a lawn!  We’ve been away for a bit while we moved (ok, parents moved – we supervised) into our new house!  We’ve got lots more space, quiet side road, and not one but 2 yards…front and back.  For city dogs this is a frickin’ big deal!

Vince refuses to walk *anywhere* now, he just goes out and lays on the lawn.  In back we’ve got green…front mostly looks like hay.  But we’ve had a lot of rain recently so hopefully we’ll have some green up front too.

We’ve got dog pals in the yard behind us and we’re closer to lots of our pug pals. We’ll post pics and vids soon as we finish getting caught up.

The move was *a lot* of work and there was a lot of cussing and all that…but just last night we heard mum say as she watched Vince snoozing in the grass that it was all worth it to give him a yard. We don’t know how many days or months or years Vince still has with us so the yard goes a BIG WAY towards all of those days (hopefully years) being good ones.

Sun, Surf and Sadness

So the good news is – we’re going to the beach tomorrow! The bad news is – we’ll be at the beach ‘cuz we’re delivering a cake to a very sick dog. Yeah, kind of puts a damper on the whole thing. This special guy doesn’t have much longer so his pals thought – let’s get him something special to enjoy while he can still enjoy it.

That’s pretty frickin’ awesome in our book. As a family we’ve had a lot of loss and come to the conclusion that its not the quantity of days – its the quality. When Vince was dx’d with a health issue 2 years ago we didn’t think he had more than 3 months or so. Mum let him have whatever he wanted. She’d say ‘if he wants a shot of tequila and a cigarette, give him a shot of tequila and a cigarette’. Vince decided he liked this treatment and 2 years later is still here and doing great – he did have to go on a diet though since Pupperoni for breakfast, lunch and dinner does horrible things to a waistline.

So if you know someone that’s having a tough time try to make the day a little more special for them…especially if its you.

Your pal,

Norman

Its been 28 hours without a Vince-ident

We’re thinking of getting one of those OSHA-style signs to announce this fact, of course we’d need it to be dry erase. But wait, you’re wondering what a Vince-ident is I’m guessing. Basically, a Vince-ident is when Doug-Doug tries to kill Vince. No, not when they fight over food or a toy or something…DD honestly tries to kill Vince.

Sometimes we can see it coming – Vince doesn’t see and will occasionally bump into DD who reacts with lethal force. But more recently, we don’t get a warning. Its like a flip switches and DD will stalk Vince and attack without mercy. Vince of course fights back but without being able to see or hear he’s kind of at a disadvantage.

Moral of the story is we love Vince and we love Doug-Doug and we continue to try to rehab DD but since we can’t trust them alone – we don’t leave them alone…EVER. They are never within reach of each other if one of us isn’t there to supervise. And when I say we’re there I mean we’re ‘there’ – no walking around on the phone, no running to get the door or check mail, no folding laundry in the other room…they are within our sight and reach at all times.

This is what taking responsibility for your companion animal’s welfare is about – not just buying a fancy collars or a ton of toys. We continue to work with DD and tell him the old adage ‘you can’t pick your family’.

In the time its taken me to write this, we’ve hit 29 hours without a Vince-ident!

So we’re lauching our blog…

With more of a whisper than a bang…too much time at the beach today and our puggy brains our sun-beat.  In the future, you’ll find posts from all 3 of us on varied topics – sometimes dog, sometimes social commentary, sometimes what we overhear in the car ;)

But today its to tell you about the special offer for the special day we’re celebrating.  Thursday, 4/8/10 is Vince’s 12th birthday.  This is a very big deal for Vince (we’ll go into that in another post) and we want to celebrate it with you all.  Every order from our website, My Dog Ate It!, placed on 4/8/10 will ship with a FREE full-size bag of Liver Live Bites, our #1 treat (100% grain-free to boot).

Enjoy and thanks for stopping over!
